Since opening our doors in 1989,we have provided compassionate,caring,professional counseling services to individuals of all ages, cultures, faiths and family situations, in a broad range of treatment areas. We offer different types of therapies and provide everything from short-term, problem-focused counseling to long-term personal growth.Maria Droste Services was founded in 1989 to bridge the gaps in available counseling services for adults and children from low-income and uninsured families. The Options program was established that same year to directly serve this “working poor” population. In 1991, MDS incorporated as a non-profit organization. Since its inception, the organization has grown in targeted ways to meet significant, unmet mental health needs in the community. The CHILDREN FIRST program was created in 1990 to help at-risk children from economically disadvantaged families in Denver. MDS launched the Survivors Mental Health Program in 2000 to provide specialized mental health services to survivors of trauma and abuse.
We are named in memory of Maria Droste, a Sister of the Good Shepherd who lived in the late 1800’s and provided counseling services as part of her ministry to those in need. We use her name because of her charisma and concern for the poor; however, MDS is not affiliated with a religious order or the Catholic diocese. Today the mission of MDS Counseling Center is carried out through community collaboration and the significant volunteer efforts of many dedicated mental health professionals.
